Station: [805] Carriages, Farm Wagons and Landaus

F: This is far more than just a garage! In this big, brightly lit space, fans of old carriages and wagons really get their money's worth.

M: A car for Sundays? Touring cars? Carriages drawn by one, two or four horses? These vehicles will take you right through the history of locomotion. Our oldest exhibit is the clunky farm wagon with its broad axles and wheel rims that rumbled ponderously but safely along tracks through woodland and meadows. Its upgrade, the spring wagon, was a multi-purpose vehicle that could be used in farming as well as for trips to the nearby town.

F: From the mid-19th century onwards, elegant carriages came on to the scene in which the well-to-do were driven to the opera or the theatre or went hunting. With or without a top? Wheels or runners? Leather or velvet upholstery? With or without a shelf for the game at the back? Find out for yourself how people used to get around the Ammerland region in the old days.
