Station: [05] Printing Press

Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press in the 15th century. With this new technology, documents could be duplicated with greater ease. Initially, he made movable letters that were pressed into paper by hand.On the right you can see a richly decorated die-cast press that replaced the oak-wood screw press used by Gutenberg. In front of the printing area, you can see a shelf with flagstones. This limestone was used for the production of a lithograph in the 18th century. This allowed colored printing of drawn images before the invention of photography.
