Description

In Sinsheim, Baden-Württemberg, the Technik Museum Sinsheim offers a comprehensive insight into the development of vehicle and aviation technology and presents a large, publicly accessible collection of technical exhibits.

The museum covers an exhibition area of more than 50,000 m², about 30,000 m² of which are in halls, and displays over 3,000 exhibits. It operates as a non-profit association, financed by admission fees, donations and membership dues, and is closely linked to the Technik Museum Speyer, located about 34 kilometres to the west.

The institution was founded in the early 1980s by committed collectors; after its opening in 1981 the collection grew steadily. Notable milestones in its development include early record and racing cars, the addition of historic locomotives and numerous aircraft, and the expansion of exhibition space. Significant acquisitions of the 21st century include the Soviet Tupolew Tu-144 and the French Concorde, which have been exhibited side by side since the early 2000s and count among the main attractions. An IMAX-3D cinema was also installed, and recent large transports brought, among other items, a submarine onto the grounds, which can now also be visited from the inside.

The collection focuses on vehicles in the broadest sense: land and watercraft, motorcycles, passenger cars, racing and sports cars, as well as steam locomotives and military vehicles form its core. The aviation collection is extensive; many aircraft are accessible from the inside, giving visitors direct insight into cabin areas. The presentation is organized thematically; exhibits are positioned close enough to study details, while information panels provide the key data. Guided tours complement the offering.
