Big names like DKW, Wanderer, MZ or Diamant, but also smaller brands like Moll or ESWECO — they all have their place in the permanent exhibition of the Museum für sächsische Fahrzeuge Chemnitz e.V. They stand as examples that Saxony was not only shaped by vehicle manufacturing, but also played a major role in shaping it. We take visitors on a journey through time from the end of the 19th century to the present and show which technical inventions were developed by inventive minds, which racing successes were celebrated here, and which stories and destinies lie behind the vehicles. On the ground floor of the historic multi-storey garage we show the development of mobility and, for our collection of cars, motorcycles and bicycles, examine the question "How did people get around?" Thus there are only around one hundred years between the penny‑farthing of 1888 and the modern electric bicycle "Cityblitz" by Diamant in 1991. And while the first automobiles still resembled carriages, the principle of aerodynamics increasingly gained importance in vehicle design.
