This unique collection of instruments of international importance shows the broad spectrum of trumpet making over four centuries. The oldest piece in the collection is a natural trumpet, made in 1664, which, together with other examples from the 17th and 18th centuries, represents the tradition of trumpet making in Central Europe at that time.
The museum also focuses on the chromatisation of the trumpet, probably the most important development process in terms of instrument making. In addition to an extensive collection of cornets, the museum also exhibits some unusual and bizarre trumpet-making techniques. Numerous works of art and documents from the context of the instrument complement the exhibition.
The Hochrheinmuseum Schloss Schönau also houses the ScheffelRäume, which show the links between the poet Joseph Victor von Scheffel and the town of Bad Säckingen. Together with important exhibits on the history of the town and a section on the archaeology of the Upper Rhine, the museum is a place of significant cultural and regional-historical importance.
