“We are still in Schloss Horst. We have thus not travelled from this place, but have indeed travelled back in time: it is 1565. The remains of the burnt-out medieval castle now house an enormous building site. The lord and lady of the castle, Rutger von der Horst and Anna von Palandt, have commissioned the construction of an imposing renaissance castle. It should turn out a true gem, to be built according to an entirely new architectural concept. Within its walls, Schloss Horst holds a unique treasure from that time: the ‘construction journals’. These written records allow historical science to reconstruct the exact process of construction down to the last detail. Not least based on this information do we want to show you how and by which people the renaissance castle Horst was built. We will especially take a look at the craftsmen. How did they live, how did they work? The blacksmiths and the masons? The carpenters and slaters? Our look at this renaissance construction site yield answers for all of us – and reveals a surprise or two ...”
