The writer Joseph Victor von Scheffel gave the mountain lake its current name. This replaced the previously common name "Schwarzsee" for the approximately five-hectare, dammed water surface. In honor of Scheffel, a striking rock formation at the mountain lake was named Scheffel Rock - a place where one particularly intensively perceives the wild-romantic atmosphere of the landscape. Even today, it´s possible to imagine how this atmosphere inspired the poet centuries ago to write his story. Today, visitors to the mountain lake can look forward to beautiful walking paths along the water, a cosy restaurant, pedal boats and a nearby wildlife enclosure. Also, you can find the climbing forest "Hochempor" there.
