The Old Town Hall in Mayen on the market square is a historic Baroque building and one of the city´s most striking structures. It was built in 1717 in the Baroque style using basalt lava stone, typical of the region, after the medieval town hall was destroyed by French troops in 1689.
The building is characterized by its traditional appearance with a mansard hipped roof and a square clock tower with a slate top, which dominates the townscape. Unlike many other parts of the town center, the building remained largely intact during World War II.
Originally the seat of the city council administration and a venue for council meetings, celebrations, and dance events, the Old Town Hall now houses a restaurant in the basement. The historic meeting room on the upper floor is used for receptions, weddings, and events.
