Description

The village museum "Ahnenhaus" in Entenhof is located in a former farmhouse dating from 1570 in the center of Pliezhausen. It consists of two living areas with a kitchen, a timber‑beamed parlor, a bedroom and a barn, which is included in the respective exhibitions. On the museum grounds there is also a bakehouse and a farm garden open to visitors. The village museum will reopen its doors on 24 April 2026. This year’s special exhibition is titled: "Longed‑for Wishes, Shattered Dreams. The 1930s to 1950s in Our Area." We show how politically uncertain the immediate post‑war years were and what hardships some people experienced. Yet how hopefully the younger generation reorganized their lives and looked forward to a better future can be seen in the notes of contemporary witnesses. The upswing after the currency reform was hesitant, and many worked hard to take part in the economic miracle; what mattered was that things were moving forward. In addition to the annually changing special exhibitions, the barn houses a permanent exhibition of the former village shop from Dörnach and the shopping opportunities of that era. Other permanent exhibitions include memorial images for commemorating the dead, the knitting industry in Pliezhausen, and a presentation of the rare trade of the chimney mason. The shoemaker’s workshop of a local master shoemaker, a tailor’s workshop and other crafts can also be viewed. The volunteer staff of the village museum look forward to your visit.
