Description
Focusing on the landscape and the people of the Eifel, the Eifelmuseum Blankenheim presents its collections in Blankenheim (Ahr), Euskirchen district, North Rhine-Westphalia, on Ahrstraße. The institution is spread across two buildings.
In the main building on Ahrstraße there is currently an exhibition on the geological and settlement history of the region. In addition, the museum regularly presents rotating exhibitions exploring typical Eifel themes in art and culture.
The second building, the Gildehaus, houses on two floors the information centre for VIA Agrippa Römerstraße. The focus of the presentation is the history of the Römervilla Blankenheim and its modern reconstruction; linked to this are questions concerning economic use in the Roman period, the archaeological record, and the continued influence of Roman antiquity in the collections of the Grafen von Manderscheid-Blankenheim.
On the second floor the more than 900-year history of Blankenheim and its counts is presented. On the third floor paintings by Eifel painter Fritz von Wille are on display.
