The Narrenmuseum Ortenberg offers an exhibition of over 200 original Fastnacht marionettes by Peter Scharte from across the Swabian–Alemannic Fastnacht region. In addition there are various carnival props such as pig bladders (Saublodern), stretching shears (Streckscheren) and bell belts (Schellengurte). The museum, housed in the over-200-year-old schoolhouse at Bruchstrasse 2, also has a collection of about 700 hanging masks (Umhängemäskle) and a carver’s workshop. Mask making is demonstrated there, and visitors can try the carving craft themselves. It is open on the first Sunday of each month from 2–4 p.m. Group tours are available any time by appointment at 0172 8138307.
