Description

Hanseatic and city history at your fingertips! Get to know the original storage rooms of the baroque fortress and city gate and learn more about the trading history of the Hanseatic city of Wesel. An experience for young and old alike! From 1718 to 1722, the Berlin Gate was built by the Berlin court architect Jean de Bodt, with the decorative figures created by none other than Guillaume Hulot and his workshop, who had previously crafted figures in the gardens of the Palace of Versailles. In this special architectural monument, the city of Wesel, together with the Hanse Gilde Wesel e.V., presents important milestones in Wesel´s trade, city history, as well as the old and new Hanseatic League. Events also take place in the Hanseforum. The rooms are open to the public at the stated times. Admission is free (a separate entry fee may be charged for special events). Unfortunately, the Hanseforum in the Berlin Gate is not easily accessible to those with disabilities. The signage is provided in both German and English, and a Dutch translation can be accessed via QR code.
