The Benshausen Local History Museum was opened in 1996 in the historic four-sided courtyard at Markt 7, which also houses the citizens´ service office and the library. It is one of the few completely preserved four-sided courtyards in Germany and was owned by a family of wine merchants from 1786. Two barrel wine cellars still bear witness to the once flourishing trade. The local history museum provides an insight into the history of the village, the living and working conditions of its inhabitants and honours historical personalities.
