Description

The local history museum dedicated to the history of the municipality of Weissach, including the districts Weissach and Flacht, owes its foundation to the former Flacht headmaster Willy Schray (1915–2003), whose collection of everyday artifacts from earlier times forms the core of the museum. The museum is housed in the old schoolhouse in the Flacht district. It opened in 1990, was redesigned in 2010 and in 2011 was awarded "Exemplary Local History Museum in the Stuttgart administrative district."

Exhibition topics include (among others):

Village history from prehistory and early history to the presentAgricultureBeekeepingCraftsMigrationFire and waterLiving / domestic lifeIndustryMemories of racing driver Herbert LingePorsche test track and development center in Weissach

In the Sepp Vees Gallery on the ground floor of the old schoolhouse, paintings and graphics by the local painter Sepp Vees (1908–1989) are shown. His work belongs to the style of expressive realism. The artist was a member of the Stuttgart New Secession and the Sindelfingen Secession. The exhibits are changed approximately once a year.

The museum and the Sepp Vees Gallery are open Sundays from 2 to 5 p.m. Admission is free. During school holidays the building is usually closed.

The Flacht Local History Museum is a member of the Museums Association of Baden-Württemberg.

During opening hours coffee and cake and other refreshments are available in the museum.

Groups and school classes can also book guided tours outside opening hours.

Guided tours are free for kindergartens and schools of the municipality of Weissach.

The museum is supported by the municipality of Weissach; the museum director is Susanne Kittelberger, M.A. The Local History Association Weissach and Flacht (Heimatverein Weissach und Flacht e.V.) assists the museum management with museum work and runs the museum café.
