Description

The Heimatstube Beselich-Obertiefenbach is a local history museum that focuses on the history, traditions, and culture of the community of Beselich, particularly the district of Obertiefenbach.

The local history museum was created by dedicated members of the men´s work of the Catholic parish "St. Ägidius" after many years of collecting exhibits and four years of intensive construction activities, and it was ceremoniously opened on March 18, 1998. The Catholic men´s work was founded on October 27, 1959, and is the only one of its kind in the Diocese of Limburg.

A variety of documents, flags, photos, books, and local maps

The local archive offers a variety of documents, flags, photographs, books, pictures, and local maps from the lives of past generations. A complete historical cobbler´s workshop, a former living room with a stove, a bed with a straw mattress, work tools of a carpenter, roofer, and painter can also be found here, as well as many old devices from agriculture and household. Moreover, there are objects from religious life and historical equipment of the volunteer fire department on display. Additionally, there are three former school benches to admire in the school and learning area. An item from the museum was already a highlight in a show of the guessing game of hr television called “dings vom dach”.

Exhibits showing work in basalt mining

Regionally typical are also the exhibits showing work in basalt mining, as well as the rocks from the local community: basalt, clay, quartzite, and ironstone; and a goods cart located in front of the building.

Group photos of first communion classes available since 1926

In local history collections, essential press articles and photographs, including group photos of first communion classes from 1926, are available for interested visitors to view. For several photos, however, the names of the depicted persons are not known; here the museum team looks forward to contributions during visits.

Complete representation of the fairground boys´ generations since 1947

The complete recording of the fairground boys´ generations since 1947 as a photo documentation and the associated newspaper reports on the Obertiefenbach fairground since 1950 are available for all visitors to view.

Obertiefenbach accommodated a particularly large number of displaced persons

Due to World War II, the village of Obertiefenbach accommodated a particularly large number of displaced persons, who shaped the village image around the 1950s, and this is also illustrated in the Heimatstube.

History and representations of Beselich Monastery

Various documents and representations of the former monastery or the monastery ruins of Beselich and their conservation measures are also present in a dedicated area.

Certificate of appointment of the deceased Federal Minister and honorary citizen Georg Leber

A display case also houses the original certificate of appointment of the deceased Federal Minister of Defense and honorary citizen of Obertiefenbach, Georg Leber, along with other related documents and photos from the politics of the 1960s to 1980s (including Leber with U.S. Presidents John F. Kennedy and Jimmy Carter, and Chancellor Helmut Schmidt).
