Description

The Historical Demonstration Weaving Mill Braunsdorf is a technical-historical museum and at the same time an important monument of industrial architecture and production history. The former weaving complex, once known as the Tannenhauer Weaving Mill, lies somewhat hidden in the romantic Zschopau Valley and impresses visitors as one of the few surviving production sites of the Saxon textile industry. The complex, which is protected as a historic monument, offers a fascinating insight into more than 200 years of textile processing history. The historic site, whose striking location evokes the atmosphere of an “industrial castle in the countryside,” presents itself entirely authentically. In the partly original production halls, visitors can experience up close how the artful interaction of the various manufacturing processes shaped the path from yarn to finished fabric. A particular highlight is the fully operational collection of machines, which not only reflects the technical sophistication of earlier times but also has considerable heritage value. In addition to the originally preserved Buckskin looms with Jacquard attachments from the traditional Tannenhauer Weaving Mill, guests can admire some rare machines from engineering firms in Chemnitz. The experience is complemented by informative demonstrations in which the old machines still impressively show how they operate. Overall, the Historical Demonstration Weaving Mill Braunsdorf not only offers a vivid look back at the history of textile production but also stands as an outstanding testimony to industrial tradition and technological innovation.
