For over 200 years, the Hus House in Constance has been the centre of veneration for the Czech scholar and reformer John Hus.
Due to criticism of the church situation at the time, John Hus had to defend his teachings before the Council of Constance, but was sentenced to death at the stake as a heretic on 6 July 1415.
According to tradition, the half-timbered house at Schnetztor, which houses the Hus Museum, was John Hus´ hostel before his arrest in November 1414.
The Hus House has housed the permanent exhibition on Jan Hus since 1980. The Hus Memorial not only contributes to education, but also to understanding between people. Since 2007, the Hus House has housed the office of the Association of Towns with Hussite History and Tradition. From here, the 18 German and Czech member towns promote lively encounters between citizens of both nations against the backdrop of Hussite thought and movement.
