Description
In Oerlinghausen, the Klimaerlebniswelt Oerlinghausen offers an interactive exploration of climate change. Across approximately 600 m², three exhibition rooms trace developments from the last Ice Age to the present.
The exhibition building was constructed from ecological materials such as wood and loam. The building’s dark exterior façade was achieved through Yakisugi, a traditional Japanese method of wood preservation.
Inside, multivision walls are used; visitors actively participate and experience various weather scenarios through simulations, including rain, heat, cold and storms.
The exhibition concept has received multiple awards: in 2024 the Red Dot Design Award, and in 2025 the Silbernen Nagel vom Art Directors Club, the IF Design Award and the IHK-Tourismuspreis. The Klimaerlebniswelt is part of the UrLand project, a cooperation between the Naturschutzgroßprojekt Senne und Teutoburger Wald, the Archäologisches Freilichtmuseum Oerlinghausen and the Klimaerlebniswelt.
