The “Küsteum” in Sande-Altmarienhausen is a small historical museum focusing on dike construction, coastal protection, agriculture, domestic science, and crafts, operated by the municipality of Sande on the North Sea coast, just outside the city of Wilhelmshaven.
One of the highlights is the historic "Schmiede Eggers" (Eggers smithy), where volunteer museum blacksmiths regularly demonstrate the old craft on Sundays and public holidays. Guests are also welcome to try their hand at the anvil!
Other members of the "Arbeitsgemeinschaft Altes Sande e. V." also volunteer to look after the exhibition items, special events, and the outdoor area of "Gut Altmarienhausen," which features a large apple orchard and an adventure garden. There is also an apiary to see.
You can relax and unwind in the "Marienstübchen." The delicious homemade fruit cake is especially popular here!
The Küsteum in Altmarienhausen is particularly popular with cyclists on day trips!
