The Museo Dolores Olmedo houses the largest collection of works by Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Angelina Beloff and Pablo O´Higgins, as well as pre-Hispanic, colonial-influenced and folk art.The museum is located in a historic hacienda that was acquired in 1937 by Dolores Olmedo, an influential businesswoman and patron of the arts. She established her residence there and began building an extensive art collection. After her death in 2002, Olmedo bequeathed the estate and her art collection to the City of Mexico City, which then established the Museo Dolores Olmedo.The collection comprises over 137,000 works, including more than 137 paintings by Frida Kahlo and numerous works by Diego Rivera. Other focal points are the works of Angelina Beloff and Pablo O´Higgins, two significant artists of the Mexican modernist movement. The museum also houses an extensive collection of pre-Columbian ceramics, colonial-influenced paintings, and Mexican folk art.The museum is housed in a 16th-century historic hacienda that was remodeled and restored by Olmedo. The architecture and garden grounds are as impressive as the art collection itself.
