Description
The Georg Schäfer Museum in Schweinfurt houses the most significant private collection of 19th-century art from the German-speaking region. With paintings and works on paper from the late 18th to the early 20th century, it offers a panorama of diverse art movements: from Classicism and Romanticism, through Realism to Impressionism. Among the represented artists are Joseph Anton Koch, Caspar David Friedrich, Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller, Adolph Menzel, Wilhelm Leibl, Max Liebermann, Lovis Corinth, and Max Beckmann. The collection also includes the world´s largest Spitzweg collection. The museum regularly hosts special exhibitions on individual artists, artist groups, and themes.
