In the beautiful Nahe Valley, at the confluence of the Nahe and Glan rivers, lies the Disibodenberg. Its eventful history has left significant traces. Here are the ruins of an important medieval monastery, surrounded by lovely nature and mighty old trees. Hildegard of Bingen spent the greater part of her life in this monastery—40 years—before moving to Bingen to found her own convent. Arriving as a young girl, she grew into the remarkable woman who is still admired today. Enjoy the peace and mystique of this special place on a stroll through the old monastic grounds. A small but fine museum at the foot of the hill rounds off the visit. In summer several events are also held in the monastery ruins that portray and bring to life the lives of Hildegard of Bingen and the monastery’s former residents.
