Description
Two in one! The Museum Natur und Mensch brings natural history and ethnology together under one roof. Children and adults can get hands-on and experience the fascination of natural and cultural diversity.
The natural history exhibitions ZEITRAUM and STEINREICH, with their fossils and sparkling minerals, transport visitors into the exciting geological and mining history of southern Germany.
The experience rooms FOREST, WATER and MEADOW invite visitors to a sensory adventure. Here not only beavers, lynx and peregrine falcons, but also bees and beetles await discovery. And if you look closely, you may also encounter some very special Freiburg residents, such as the Baden giant earthworm or the bee-eater.
A new presentation of the Ethnological Collection is currently being developed. At the center of the "Ethnological Collection in Transition" are the history of the ethnological collection, the colonial contexts from which much of the collection originates, and existing gaps and ruptures. In addition, the results of the provenance research carried out to date are presented and critically contextualized. The aim is to reassess the past and the collecting practices of different periods. With the new permanent exhibition, the Ethnological Collection will, for the first time since the closure of the Adelhausen Museum of Ethnology in 2006, once again have a lasting presence.
The Ethnological Collection can also be seen in special exhibitions, which focus on the cultural richness of humanity and current developments.
