The Netherlands Photo Museum is located in a historic coffee warehouse named Pakhuis Santos in the Rotterdam neighborhood of Katendrecht. The building, constructed in 1901-1902, was declared a national monument in 2000 and subsequently renovated by WDJARCHITECTEN, RENNER HAINKE WIRTH ZIRN ARCHITEKTEN, and Burgy Bouwbedrijf. A clear distinction was made between the historic structure and the contemporary extension during the renovation. The museum will reopen its doors on February 7, 2026, showcasing works of leading Dutch photographers as well as emerging talents, spanning from the beginnings of photography around 1839 to the present. With over 6.5 million photographic objects, the collection is one of the largest in the world. It includes negatives, slides, prints, and digital images, from early daguerreotypes to contemporary digital works, with a focus on analog and documentary photography of the 20th century.
