The Passau Glass Museum houses one of the world's most extensive collections of Bohemian glass.
The museum is located in Passau's old town, just a few steps from the town hall tower. The exhibition space spans 2,200 m² within the historic lodging establishment "Wilder Mann". Visitor access is through the former town magistrate's house at the corner of Schrottgasse and Höllgasse.
It opened on 15 March 1985. The building is registered on the "National wertvolles Kulturgut" list.
The collection comprises more than 30,000 pieces of Bohemian glass, of which around 17,000 are on permanent display. Across 25 rooms, the development of glass design from approximately 1650 to 1950 is presented. On view are pieces from the Baroque, Empire, Biedermeier, Classicism, Historicism, Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Modernism periods.
Both the listed building and the glass collection are owned by a family of entrepreneurs.
