History of Spa Medicine and Spa Town Development
The permanent exhibition of the Quellenuseum is divided into two parts. Part A deals with the history of Wildungen spa medicine, the emergence of the healing springs, and their significant importance for the residents of the town. Here, you can find – alongside small and large kidney and bladder stones, surgical tools, and organ specimens – the famous giant bladder stone, which was removed in the 1930s and subsequently artistically transformed into a paperweight. The Wildungen healing waters were shipped as far as Russia – they once determined the (clinical) everyday life in the burgeoning spa town of Bad Wildungen. Part B allows visitors to experience the special spa atmosphere that prevailed particularly during the summer. Living rooms from the Gründerzeit and Biedermeier eras convey an impression of bourgeois life in the late 19th century. There once existed two worlds in Bad Wildungen: the simple (survival) life in the old town on one hand, and the fashionable life in the new villas and hotels in the spa town on the other. Precious souvenirs, splendid architectural models, and spa park elements reveal how magnificent and multifaceted Bad Wildungen has been.
