Description
On the north side of the historic residence of Friedrich Schiller is the Schiller Museum, which includes three large exhibition rooms totaling about 400 square meters. Completed in 1988, it is one of the few museum constructions from the GDR. The modern architecture with its partially glazed facade adapts its structure to the historic surroundings of the old town. From 1995, the rooms were used as office spaces for employees of the Goethe National Museum. In 1999, the exhibition rooms were restored to their original condition, and various temporary exhibitions were presented there until 2006. To sustainably use the Schiller Museum exhibition rooms for displays with conservational-sensitive objects, modern climate, electrical, and security technology was installed in 2008. Today, the museum, originally entirely dedicated to the life and work of Schiller, hosts temporary exhibitions.
