Description

A true treasure is hidden in Freudenstein Castle. The Renaissance castle was built in the 16th century on the walls of a 12th-century fortress to protect the town of Freiberg and its silver-mining industry. Today, features such as the Romanesque round tower, the painstakingly preserved Renaissance staircases, and the vaulted rooms recall a time between armed conflicts and lavish festivities. But it’s not only the castle and its history that draw visitors to Freiberg. Freudenstein Castle is home to "Terra Mineralia", one of the most beautiful mineral exhibitions in the world. More than 3,500 gemstones and minerals from five continents are waiting to be discovered by young and old.
