A treasure trove of the Spessart, full of history and stories: The Spessart Museum in Lohr am Main.
Located in the former castle of the Counts of Rieneck and the Electors of Mainz, the Spessart Museum showcases the cultural history of one of Germany's largest forest areas, spanning over 2,000 square meters, under the theme "Man and Forest."
High lords and commoners – electors, foresters, manufacturers, craftsmen, forest workers, and robbers – all lived in and off the Spessart, many just getting by. And when it came to survival, resourcefulness and special skills were required. This resourcefulness also produced very special pieces, such as the products of the Lohr Mirror Manufactory, including the so-called "Snow White Mirror."
The exhibition at the Spessart Museum takes you beyond the romantic clichés of the Spessart forest: Into the adventure of history.
