Description

Museum at Löwentor – Schloss Rosenstein

Museum at Löwentor – Dinosaurs, Mammoth, Amber

The Museum at Löwentor presents the world-famous fossil finds from the prehistoric times of Southwest Germany, including the oldest dinosaur finds in Europe, the oldest turtles in the world, and the uniquely preserved marine saurians of the Swabian Alb. In detailed landscapes, life-like and scientifically reconstructed saurians roam alongside mussels, corals, and fish.

Spectacular skeleton mounts and models of giant mammals from the Ice Age, such as mammoths and steppe elephants, are other worthwhile highlights. This also includes the 250,000-year-old skull of the Steinheim prehistoric human. Interactive stations, especially for children, a general introduction to earth´s history, and the amber cabinet with sensational inclusions of living organisms complete the offerings of the Museum at Löwentor. The well-stocked museum shop offers numerous gift ideas and further literature on the subject.

Museum Schloss Rosenstein – Diversity of Life

Dense tropical jungles, barren deserts, green forests, arctic tundra. Observing paradise birds from a treehouse, standing on shifting pack ice face to face with a polar bear – a journey of discovery in Schloss Rosenstein leads through six elaborately designed habitats around the whole Earth.

Even the local nature, from butterflies to red deer, is not neglected.

In the marine hall, dolphins, great white sharks, saltwater crocodiles, and – uniquely worldwide – a 13-meter-long sei whale with an interesting internal view from the giant heart to the whale calf "swim."

Clever adaptations, spectacular colors, and shapes: The entire diversity of life is reflected in the biological exhibition at Schloss Rosenstein. And around the majestic African elephant, it is easy to understand how evolution continuously leads to the emergence of new species.
