Local history, art and culture meet — and you — when you drop by!
At the lower end of the market square in the Wilhelmsburg is the Hilchenbach City Museum.
In addition to the actual "local history" museum, several special themed rooms enrich the offering. As a result, the city museum presents the history of Hilchenbach.
The Hilchenbach City Museum evolved from the former Allenbach School and Local History Museum. This museum grew out of school activities and was housed in the attic of the old Allenbach school. After the building was demolished, the museum collection was transferred to the city of Hilchenbach as the Paul Benfer Foundation. The collections have been accessible to the public since the completion of the city museum.
From its opening on 30 October 1982 until 31 December 2019, a total of 136,043 people visited the city museum. In 2020, due to the COVID-19 closures, only 94 visitors took the opportunity to learn about local history.
The Wilhelmsburg is a former Nassau state castle, the seat of the district court until 1976, and since 1982 the home of the city museum.
In the hallway there are two display cases with exhibits from the toy museum of the partner municipality Seiffen/Erzgebirge.
