Description
At the foot of the Porta Nigra, within the ensemble of the former Simeonstift around the Brunnenhof, the Stadtmuseum Simeonstift Trier is situated.
The museum occupies the historic buildings of the former Simeonstift and was previously known as the "Städtisches Museum Trier." Its location immediately adjacent to the Porta Nigra anchors the museum in a significant urban and historical context.
The permanent exhibition brings together works of art and cultural artefacts from the Middle Ages to the 20th century. It presents objects and themes that explain the everyday life of Trier's inhabitants and shed light on economic and trade-related contexts. In addition, the presentation addresses political and religious developments and reveals artistic as well as technical aspects of urban society.
