Description
Within the urban context of Kassel, the Straßenbahnmuseum Kassel preserves artefacts and records of the Kassel tram and is aimed at visitors interested in transport history. The museum is located in the Betriebshof Sandershäuser Straße.
The institution was housed until 2002 in the now-demolished Betriebshof Holländische Straße. After relocating, the museum reopened at the new site on 3 April 2004. The original vehicles have been on display at the Technikmuseum Kassel since the end of 2014.
The exhibition documents the complete history of the Kassel tram. On display are uniforms, tickets, signs and individual vehicle parts; the presentation is complemented by a model tram layout. The collection thus provides insights into the technology, operation and everyday culture of urban rail transport.
