Description

In Hohenstein-Ernstthal the Textil- und Rennsportmuseum (TRM) brings regional textile and motorsport history together under one roof. Since the 1990s the museum has used a five-storey factory building of the former textile firm C. F. Jäckel as its exhibition venue.

On more than 1,400 m² of exhibition space central aspects of textile production are presented. Techniques such as Jacquard weaving, hosiery knitting, knitting and embroidery are shown, as well as developments in the underwear and linen industry. Demonstrations on historic machines illustrate the production of textile goods. Particularly notable is the extensive collection of woven wall hangings, which constitutes a special focus of the museum.

The historical connection between the textile industry and motorsport reflects local development and is represented by a dedicated department in the museum. The exhibition on the Sachsenring documents the history of the race track and its changes over time. Exhibits include original road-racing machines, racing apparel and a large model collection that brings together the technology and culture of motorsport.

The presentation programme is complemented by annually changing special exhibitions. These are devoted to topics in regional industrial history, textile art forms and seasonal customs. The Stadtrechtsbrunnen is also located in the building and is part of the museum ensemble.
