Description
The Westwallmuseen Wiltingen demonstrate the construction types and operational concepts of the Westwall defenses and present two preserved bunkers as witnesses to that period.
The site is located directly on the Saar railway line and close to state road L 138. Both installations were restored through private initiative and are part of grounds that make the region's military history visible.
The so-called MG-Schartenstand SK is a restored Westwall bunker of the type "Regelbau B1/1 SK 37513" and was intended for a garrison of five to six men. Because of the steep slope in the railway embankment above the Saar, a stairwell and an entrance covering were added to the structure. Together with three installations that have since disappeared, this bunker served to secure the Saarbrücke Wiltingen, which today is part of K 130.
The Artilleriebeobachter represents a restored Westwall bunker of the type "Regelbau 19" and was designed for six men. Characteristic features include an open observation post, a flanking installation and a combined Kampf- und Rechenraum, which clearly demonstrate the purpose of the installation as an observation and combat position.
