Description

In the townscape of Bachem, the Weinmuseum Bachem at Königstraße 23 plays a role in the local cultural history and has exhibited objects relating to traditional viticultural practice since 1978.

The building, known as Backhaus 1650, documents various phases of use: from 1713 to 1848 it served as a school; during the Wars of Liberation in 1814 it was used as a Cossack guard post. The ground floor is built of local rubble stone, and the first floor is partly timber-framed. At public events, bread is still baked in the historic bakehouse oven.

The museum collection focuses on the tools and implements used in the vineyard and cellar. Among the items on display are a Rebmesseer and a Hippe, a Leiterwagen, and a historic wine press. A notable visitor event is the entry by former Federal Chancellor Willy Brandt in the guestbook on 30 August 1986, which underscores the regional significance of the house.
