Description

Schönau Castle, which today houses the Hochrhein Museum and the Trumpet Museum, invites you on a journey through time across 5 floors. Learn about more than 400 years of trumpet history, travel with the archaeological finds from the Hochrhein region into the centuries-old history of this region - from mammoths to the Middle Ages. Each summer and winter season, the castle presents a new rotating exhibition with a regional focus. There are also many fascinating stories about the castle and its inhabitants; the Lords of Schönau are eternally linked with Joseph Victor von Scheffel´s verse epic "The Trumpeter of Säckingen. A Song from the Upper Rhine". The love story with a happy ending became a bestseller and made Säckingen known worldwide from the end of the 19th century. You can learn more about this in the castle, in the so-called "Scheffel Rooms".
