Description

Not only is "cabinet history" presented in the Roman-Tower, but history is brought to life here.

The Roman-Tower is the last remaining structure of the once middle-age castle of Emerkingen. The tower was built in the 13th century as a defense and residential tower and still dominates the townscape today. Despite its name, it does not originate from Roman times - the term "Roman-Tower" was only later established due to historical finds that were wrongly attributed at the time.

The inside of the tower today houses a small, lovingly designed museum. It shows the history of the castle, the community, and the region - from early settlements, through the Middle Ages, to modern times. In the upper floors, visitors can also view the historic clockwork and church bells that have been housed in the tower since 1921.

The Roman-Tower is one of Emerkingen´s most significant landmarks and an impressive testament to regional history. A visit is worthwhile for anyone wanting to discover historical architecture and local culture.

Every floor tells the story of Emerkingen:
      - 4th Floor: The bells, viewpoint and stork history
      - 3rd Floor: The Romans in Emerkingen
      - 2nd Floor: Life in the countryside
      - 1st Floor: The religious community of Emerkingen
      - Ground Floor: The lords of Emerkingen and their castle

The Roman-Tower can be visited after consultation with the city administration at the following times:
Mon - Fri: 9:00 - 11:30 am
Thu:        14:00 - 18:00 pm
