Thanks to its scenic location in the Parthenaue, Naunhof is an important attraction in the Leipzig region and is especially significant for local recreation. The charming small town is surrounded by the largest contiguous forest area in the southeast of Leipzig and is therefore also referred to as the Green Heart of the Partheland. Pure nature can also be experienced at the many bathing lakes. The unspoiled character of Lake Moritz and Lake Grillen as well as Lake Albrechtshain invites you to enjoy complete rest and relaxation. A very well-developed network of cycle paths also gives Naunhof the reputation of being a cyclist-friendly town.
Naunhof was first mentioned in documents in 1223, when Ludwig IV, Landgrave of Thuringia, laid siege to the Castrum Nuwenhof. As early as the Middle Ages, Naunhof developed into an important small town of craftsmen and agriculture in the region. About 100 years ago, Naunhof became increasingly popular as an excursion destination for “summer retreats,” so that special trains brought people to the Partheland for recreation. As a town with a high quality of life, Naunhof is once again continuing this tradition.
