Description

The oldest building in the city is the Church of St. Peter and Paul. The construction of the choir and the northern sacristy in the transitional style from Romanesque to Gothic began around 1280. Shortly thereafter, the three-aisled nave was built in the Gothic style. The 40-meter-high church tower followed in the mid-15th century. In the course of the renovation work at the end of the 19th century, there were some structural changes. The northern aisle was demolished and rebuilt in its present form. A new sacristy also emerged on the south side of the choir. Particularly significant in terms of cultural history are the vault paintings from the 14th century, the former altar retable from the 15th century, and the baroque façade of the organ.
