Description

Until the 19th century, the site of today´s school compound was covered with fields and gardens. They belonged to the endowment assets of the Fiedler School Foundation (Felix Fiedler 1661-1705 Pastor in Teterow) and were leased to the city. The lease income was used to support poor students. In 1839, 600 children were taught in six school classes in a small building on School Street. In 1858, the city received the school field on a hereditary leasehold for the construction of a school building. Two years later, the inauguration of the boys´ school was celebrated. The second large building started operation as a girls´ school in 1886. The kindergarten followed in 1888 and the state secondary school five years later.
Towards the end of the Second World War until the summer of 1945, all school buildings served as a hospital.
The most recent school building dates from 1965. Today, the former secondary school and the new building from GDR times are used as primary schools. A theater, music school, dance department and art workshop are housed in the former boys´ school.
