Description

Located in one of the oldest buildings in the city center, the Straelen City Archive has been housed since 1992. The house at "Kuhstraße 21", built between 1540 and 1550, formerly included a farm and a pub. The latter was in operation until 1981 and was well-known in Straelen under the name "Landmann". Until 1840, the necessary beer for personal consumption was brewed in the house and schnapps was also distilled. This is evidenced by the massive brick chimney, which was used, among other things, as a malt kiln and smoking facility.
