Description

On November 10, 2002, the time had come: Exactly 100 years after the first St. Martin's parade in Straelen, a fountain was dedicated to the saint. It is located at the Mühlentor, which hundreds of children pass every day. Some Straelen residents had the idea to create something permanent instead of the annual fireworks. Under the motto "Fountain instead of firecrackers", they had solicited donations and designed the plan for a St. Martin's fountain that should be all about children. From a central source stone, a brick spiral grows. Five bronze children have gathered around it and are excited about the torches and the Straelen motives that they show. The artistic execution of the fountain was carried out by Hans Peter Fonteyne from Geldern-Vernum. The bronze casting was done by the Kevelaer company Butzon & Bercker.
