Description

The cannon is a witness to Straelen's darkest times. During the 80-year War (mid-16th to mid-17th century), the city was repeatedly wrested from Spanish sovereigns. During one of these attempts in 1591, the Dutch adversaries of the Habsburgs left the cannon in the city moat on the east wall. It was found there in 1935 during excavation works.
