Bismarck stone
Granite gneiss boulder

Description

The people of Teterow resolved in January 1900 to erect a monument to the Imperial Chancellor Otto von Bismarck. A boulder made of granite gneiss from the Pampower Feldmark was chosen as a suitable memorial stone. Its rescue and transportation proved to be a challenge. Four steam ploughs were required to pull the over 22-ton behemoth to its current location. The boulder was initially used as a VVN monument after the Second World War, had no dedication from 1969 onwards, and in 1998, it once again received a relief image of Bismarck.
