Description

Rötha City and Heritage Museum – The History of a Changing City

The Rötha City and Heritage Museum vividly conveys the history of the city and its region from prehistoric and early history up to recent times. The focus is on crafts, agriculture and in particular, brown coal mining, which has had a lasting impact on the cityscape and society. Historical documents, photographs, and everyday objects give insight into the lives of previous generations.

The museum is housed in the former municipal prison from 1910, which was used until 1953 and is itself a significant historical site. Since its opening in 2001, the museum has been continuously developed by the Rötha City and Heritage Association, with the support of the city, and is now a central place of remembrance, education, and cultural life in Rötha.

Due to its central location, a visit to the museum easily combines with a walk through the city center or a visit to other attractions such as the Rötha Castle Park.
