Wermsdorf is located - nestled among forests and lakes - in the southwestern part of the district of Nordsachsen and in the southeastern foothills of the Leipzig Lowland Bay - right in the heart of the Saxon metropolitan cities of Leipzig, Dresden, and Chemnitz.
In a horseshoe shape, the historic, almost continuous Wermsdorf Forest surrounds the town that gives it its name.
