Station: [33] Basement: Scribing tools

Scribers, metal compasses, engineer's squares... before you can start working on sheet metal, you must of course mark out where you need to bend, seam, bead or rivet. In metal technology, that marking out is called "scribing". You don't work with pencils and erasers, but with tools that score the surface, or you make small indentations with a tool called a centre punch.

The special tools you need to scribe the surfaces are on display in this showcase. Large and small, old and new ... have a look and see if you can work out which of the tools is used in which situation!
