Cultural Heritage of Printing
The Museum of Printing Arts in Leipzig is dedicated to preserving an important part of industrial heritage and, far beyond the city limits, focuses on bringing the artisanal and industrial production of printed materials to life. By combining a working workshop with a museum, 550 years of printing and media history come to life in a historic building through a unique educational concept. The interplay of these elements is what sets the museum apart in Leipzig and within Saxony’s museum landscape.
The museum is located at Nonnenstraße 38 in Leipzig, in the former industrial district of Plagwitz, a site with a nearly 100-year tradition as a printing workshop. It was founded in 1994 by a private collector, and at the end of 1999, the museum was transferred to was transferred to a private foundation mainly funded by Giesecke & Devrient Foundation and the City of Leipzig.
