[1] Historic town hall

Description

The historic town hall is a two-story building with a knee wall and a gently sloping hipped roof. The solid ground floor and the round stair tower date from 1570, while the half-timbered upper floor and attic were added in 1852. The boarded knee wall and the roof structure exhibit motifs of the "Swiss chalet style," which became popular in the mid-19th century. The building originated when Reichelsheim became a Nassau district (Amt). (An Amt is comparable to a county – Reichelsheim had a special status as an Amt because it was the administrative seat and, due to its geographical location within the principality, the only town in this district.) At that time, it was decided that the district needed a council building.Since the move to the new town hall in June 2014, the old building has been largely unused. The ground floor still houses the wedding room, furnished in a Mediterranean style. It can accommodate approximately 14 people (including the bridal couple).
